We get calls all the time
from people wanting to put a solar screen over a
skylight and on a rare occasion we will do it.
For one, we have to be at a house already doing
a solar screen job. We will not just do a
skylight job by itself, it has to be in addition
to an existing order for solar window screens.
If we are to address a skylight, we will only do
so for those on the first floor, we will not
climb up to a 2nd floor roof. If your
skylight is on the roof of a second floor, we
will not attempt to put a solar screen on that
skylight for you. The skylight HAS to be
flat, just as shown here. Most all
skylights are domed. If the skylight
window is domed, we can not put a solar screen
on it. One has to worry about leakage, so
if you are putting a solar screen over a
skylight yourself, remember DO NOT use any
screws. What we will do is use silicone,
and you have to be very careful that you use
silicone in a way to make sure that there is
plenty of room for water to escape. For
example, you would not want to silicone the
bottom and sides of this solar screen to the
skylight, as the water will collect and
eventually find a way to leak. We did not
use any silicon at the bottom of this screen. |
